What are the lessons like?

The What’s in the Bible? Church Edition lessons comprise the following sections:

• Video 1 / Small Group 1 – Welcome children with a ‘News’ video, then share ideas in small groups to get the lesson started.

• Video 2/ Small Group 2 – Introduce the learning objectives for the lesson, then play a game to reinforce the video content.

• Video 3 / Small Group 3 – Dive deeper into the learning objectives, then have fun with a game to reinforce the learning.

• Video 4 / Small Group 4 – Review the day’s lessons with a video quiz, then reflect and pray before ending class.

• Caregiver Walk Out Time – Each lesson includes a Go Home Card to encourage kids to talk about what they’ve learned with their families and continue the learning at home.

CURRICULUM GUIDE

There are 13 series in What’s in the Bible? Church Edition with 4 lessons each, designed to run consecutively to take your kids through the entirety of the Bible in one year.

VOLUME 1: In the Beginning (Genesis) Introduce your children’s ministry to Buck Denver and his friends as they kick off their journey through the whole Bible! Volume 1 introduces the Bible – what it is, who wrote it, and why it matters – and tells the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah and primeval history!

VOLUME 2: Let My People Go! (Exodus) Finish the book of Genesis with the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Joseph, and then learn all about Moses and the Israelites’ great escape from Egypt. Find out who wrote the Bible, and teach big concepts like sin, salvation and redemption!

VOLUME 3: Wanderin’ in the Desert (Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy) Finish learning about the Pentateuch – the first 5 books of the Bible! Learn all about the wacky rules in Leviticus, and Moses gives his final speech to the Israelites before they enter the Promised Land without him.

VOLUME 4: Battle for the Promised Land (Joshua, Judges & Ruth) Watch the Israelites finally make it to the Promised Land. Learn why they have so many battles once they are there, like the famous battle of Jericho. Buck Denver and his friends introduce the Historical Books and the judges, and Chester Whigget tells the Bible’s great love story – Ruth and Boaz!

VOLUME 5: Israel Gets a King (1&2 Samuel) Meet the first three kings of Israel – Saul, David and Solomon. Learn about the Davidic Covenant, God’s great promise to David, and about the trinity – how God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

VOLUME 6: A Nation Divided (Kings & Chronicles) Learn about 4 books and 39 kings! Israel was a mess after King Solomon died, and the kingdom was split into 2 parts. Evil kings and queens threatened to wipe out God’s people forever, but God sent prophets like Elijah and Isaiah to remind the Israelites of God’s great promises to them.

VOLUME 7: Exile and Return! (Ezra, Nehemiah & Esther) Learn about the Israelites’ return to the kingdom of Israel after being exiled for many years. Ezra and Nehemiah lead the efforts to rebuild the temple and Jerusalem’s city walls, and Chester Whigget’s Popsicle Stick Theater presents the Story of Esther!

VOLUME 8: Words to Make Us Wise (Psalms, Proverbs & The Writings) Explore the Wisdom Books! Learn all about poetry in the Bible through the books of Job and Psalms, and then Sunday School Lady finds meaning in Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and even Song of Solomon (a book of love songs!).

VOLUME 9: God Speaks! (Isaiah, Jeremiah & The Prophets) Meet the prophets of the Old Testament – from Isaiah and his hope-filled prophecies to Daniel in the lions’ den and Jonah and the whale.

VOLUME 10: Jesus is the Good News! (The Gospels) Explore the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments, and then learn about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

VOLUME 11: Spreading the Good News (Acts) Begin a journey through the book of Acts of the Apostles – starting with Pentecost and learning all about the Holy Spirit, following Jesus’ disciples as they spread the Good News through the world, and watching the conversion and ministry of Saul.

VOLUME 12: Letters from Paul! (Romans-Philemon) Take a whirlwind tour through the 13 letters the Apostle Paul wrote to churches all over the Roman World, then dive in to some of the BIG ideas Paul teaches – like sanctification, the fruit of the Spirit, and spiritual disciplines!

VOLUME 13: God’s Kingdom Comes! (General Epistles & Revelation) Take your children’s ministry through the final books of the Bible – the General Epistles and Revelation! Learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus from the books of Hebrews and James, and then watch Buck Denver and friends learn about John’s visions in Revelation and the coming kingdom of God!
