Words of Peace: An Advent Devotional
Advent is a season of wonder, waiting, and the incredible promise of peace. Not just the calm-before-Christmas kind of peace, but the life-changing, heart-steadying peace that only Jesus brings. This devotional invites you to pause, breathe, and rest in the presence of the Prince of Peace—because His peace isn’t just for us to receive; it’s for us to share with the children and families we serve.
Advent is such a special time—a season filled with wonder and waiting. And at the heart of it, we remember the profound gift of peace. Not the kind of peace that means everything is perfect or easy (don’t we know it!), but the deep, soul-level peace that Jesus brings.
When the angels appeared to the shepherds that night, they declared peace on earth. That peace wasn’t just about calm skies or quiet pastures. It was a promise: Jesus came to bring peace into the very center of our messy, busy, chaotic lives.
As leaders in children’s ministry, we have the privilege of helping kids discover that peace for themselves. We show them that peace isn’t just the absence of conflict—it’s the presence of Jesus. And let’s be honest, we could all use a reminder of that, too.
This Advent season, lean into that peace. The world is wild, and each day brings new mess. To-do lists feel endless, and the energy levels run low. I invite you to pause. Take a deep breath and remember that the Prince of Peace is with you. You don’t have to have all the answers or do all the things. His peace is enough—for you and for the kids you’re shepherding.
And here’s the amazing thing: as we live in Jesus’ peace, we get to pass it on. The way we approach our ministry—with peace, joy, and love—can become a reflection of God’s peace to the children and families we serve.
Let’s make space for peace this Advent. In our hearts, in our ministries, and in the lives of the kids we’re walking with. Because Jesus’ peace changes everything. It changes us.
Pray with me:
Prince of Peace, fill our hearts, our minds, our lives, our families. Help us to be a people of peace. Help me to be a peacemaker. Father, when there is a storm that surrounds me, remind me that the wind and waves know your name. You bring peace into the murkiest situations. You are our hope and stay. Let us – let me – rest in your peace today and always.
In Jesus most wonderful name we pray.
Amen
